I have first encountered Claire Van Der Boom when watching an Australian police drama Rush that aired on AXN. And the magic happened instantly. Yes, the same magic, or chemistry, I think most of us guys felt when watching other tv shows, like Baywatch … Of course, “she’s performing good, she’s good actor” wasn’t the first thought that made its way through my head. I just liked her .. .and still do. The fact that she’s acting good I found out about two episodes later, which you probably won’t believe me according to what I wrote a sentence before. Unfortunately, the script writers kept Claire’s character only in the first season of Rush, so there were not many other opportunities left to see her here in Czech Republic. I know she was in couple of episodes of Hawaii Five-O, but the movies she’s in, I did not see any of it aired here in Czech Republic. Wrapping it up, after I took a pencil in hand with a thought in my mind: “Let’s see if I can still draw after 10 or plus years of drawing nothing…and can I do something harder than comics?”, she was my pick. And is there more joyful drawing than drawing a beautiful girl?
The first two pictures are based on screens from the movie “The Square” where Claire performs. The first picture was actually the second I drew after that 10 years pause. Everything I did there was by hand and guessing … that is why the proportions are odd and it takes some kind of imagination to find the overall likeness with Claire’s face:) With second one and others, I took better care of getting the proportions, distances, sizes etc. right. And so it came out better.
