Couple of words for introduction
Today I share a “recycled” (3rd time) repaint again…
After doing quick research with AI, I found out that the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 version should work in 2024 version without major edits (in graphics) … appears it just needs different texture format and file structure… Ok, I do new export and that, could take like 4 hours, I thought…
Digging in my archives and backup, what an unpleasant suprise it was to found out that the source files of my “Mouseviator repaint for PMDG 737-800 NGX for Microsoft Flight Simulator” conversion from Prepar3D to MSFS 2020 is gone completely and the “J.Spejbl 100th Anniversary repaint for PMDG 737-800 for Microsoft Flight Simulator” is half-corrupted – so, back to drawing board…
I could have converted it from the “ptp” distribution of my MSFS 2020 versions, but at the end, that would mean double compression and degradation in quality. Even though you might not notice it, I would have known. Luckily, it is still not like starting from scratch, just from P3D version, meaning to redone the modifications that was done between the P3D-MSFS versions and complete rework of COMP textures (which is not that much work). But still, it was again more work than I anticipated at the beginning…
Here we are, two months later since I started. Exploring the aircraft in MSFS 2024, thanks to new possibilities we have now (AI upscaling, for example), I decided not to let the repaint leave as simple re-export of the 2020 version. Those new possibilities allowed me to do some customizations, mainly in the virtual cockpit and the cabin. So this new repaint is expanded compared to the 2020 version.
It’s been six years since Mr. Spejbl celebrated his 100th birthday, but this repaint is such a heartfelt matter that I simply couldn’t let it “not exist” in MSFS 2024 🙂 It connects my love for favourite czech puppets – Spejbl, Hurvínek, Mánička, Bábinka and Žeryk and my love for aviation and flight simulators. I created it because in 2020 Mr. Spejbl celebrated 100 years and as a big fan, I sort of felt I have to do it 🙂 It was also sort of “Czech exclusive”, back than, but when I was porting it over to MSFS 2020 version of the aircraft of the subject, I decided to translate it for you folks who don’t understand Czech so much … Hope I succeeded, sometimes it is not easy to translate czech sentences rich for words without loosing the context. That is especially true for Spejbl and Hurvínek dialogs…On the other side, I only translated this to English, one of 25 languages they spoke during their theatre life… Many may not heard about Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek, but I believe, many does. They visited a lot of countries in those more than 100 years by now.
In this “expanded” version for MSFS 2024, you’ll also find many references (artworks, posters, paintings, etc.) from the history of Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek inside the aircraft virtual cabin. Some contains text, that is not translated (like some historical commecials). It did not make sense to me to translate them, since they were czech-specific, so just take it as it is. There are also posters on the walls, from some plays, with the play title below them. I ranslated the titles, but they are not official titles. They are translated just so that you have a slight idea of what the czech weird antique looking writings mean 🙂
Oh, and what is the aircraft? Of course, nothing else than the title revealed – the Boeing 737-800 from PMDG. This one is for BBJ2 – business jet variant, not the classic passenger variant. This could make us feel more “bourgeois“, but the main reason was that in the original repaint, that was for Prepar3D, it was possible to “mask out” some windows for the graphics on the fuselage. This is not possible in MSFS, thus I have to move the graphics a little bit and also needed an aircraft with less windows 🙂
But Mr. Spejbl was not the only one celebrating. Even the Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek itself celebrated several anniversaries in 2020. It has been a professional ensemble for 90 years, 75 years in Prague, of which 25 years at Dejvice. Mánička and Žeryk also celebrated 90 years.
Don’t you know who Josef Spejbl is? I see. Well, I hate to believe it, but we can’t all know everyone, can we? I also didn’t get to know Harry Potter until about 5 years after everyone else in the world…so, I won’t draw any conclusions from that. So, in the following lines, I will try to introduce to you Mr. Spejbl, the entire theater family and the artists who stand behind them, or more precisely, above them. In addition to Josef Spejbl, the family of Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek also includes Spejbl’s son Hurvínek, his friend Mánička and her guardian Bábinka, also known as Mrs. Kateřina Hovorková. The fifth, no less important member is Spejbl’s and Hurvínek’s dog – Žeryk. Oh, did I mention, they’re all puppets?
You could say that Josef Spejbl is a founding member, as he was the first of the family to set foot on the stage. And that already in 1920 (as you probably guessed) It is not known when exactly it was. Spejbl made his first appearance with Kašpárek, and his appearance changed slightly several times before settling on the one you can see in the picture on the left.
In the picture you can also see Spejbl’s son – Hurvínek. He joined his father when he was 6 years old – that is, Spejbl. He entered the stage of the theater on 2 May 1926 in the performance of Rudolf Nešvera’s comedy „Počestný dům“ (House of Honor).
Hurvínek’s best friend is Mánička. She performed for the first time on April 19, 1930 at the premiere of „Hurvínkova jarní revue“ (Hurvínek’s Spring Revue) (later presented under the name “Revue z donucení” (Revue out of compulsion)). Of the two, Mánička is the one who takes home a report card with a lower average. However, she never leaves Hurvínek in the lurch and helps him in asking all sorts of questions to their more mature counterparts.
Mánička’s guardian, Mrs. Kateřina Hovorková, who is known to everyone as Bábinka, is the female opponent to Mr. Spejbl (and together with him, to Hurvínek and Mánička :). She got her definitive form right after her first appearance on the scene, after the premiere of the play “Past na Hurvínka” (A trap for Hurvínek) (September 12, 1971).
Spejbl’s and Hurvínek’s dog is called Žeryk. He is a smart dog who watches out for the others. He probably never disdains a bone or something to eat. If it weren’t for the fact that he can bark certain words and thus communicate well, you could say that he is a completely normal dog. He performed for the first time, together with Mánička, at the premiere of „Hurvínkova jarní revue“ (Hurvínek’s Spring Revue) (“Revue z donucení” (Revue out of compulsion)) on April 19, 1930.
And now a little bit about the main interprets, ladies first:
Anna Kreuzmannová – She was the first interpreter of Mánička. She comes from an acting family. She worked in Josef Skupa’s Puppet Theatre in the years 1929–1943. She only got to movies and series at an advanced age.
Božena Weleková – She was the performer of Mánička from 1945 to 1967. She went through several theater companies before settling in the Theatre of Spejbla and Hurvínek, founded by Josef Skupa, for more than 20 years. Thanks to her large vocal range, she was also used in operetta.
Helena Štáchová – She has been an interpreter of Mánička since 1967. Since 1971, i.e. since the creation of Bábinka, she has also been her interpreter. Mrs. Kateřina (Bábinka), was created at her instigation. She is the author of countless skits with the S+H family, and since 1996 she has been the director of the Theatre of Spejbla and Hurvínek. In 2013, she received the Thálie award for the S+H Theatre, the same year she received the Golden Laurel Order of the Chamber of Commerce. In April 2016, on the occasion of Hurvínek’s 90th birthday, she received a certificate of honorary membership in the Actors’ Association from the hands of Jiří Hromada. In addition to theater, she was also involved in television, dubbing the character of Liza Simpson in The Simpsons series. In 2018, Prague 6 awarded her Honorary Citizenship in memoriam. In total, she wrote 9 books and 54 screenplays, 7 plays for adults and 9 for children. Heh, so it can be counted 🙂
Marie Šimsová – she is the current interpreter of Mánička and Mrs. Kateřina (Bábinka). She has been preparing for this role under the guidance of Helena Štáchová since 2016. She has been working at the Theatre of Spejbla and Hurvínek since 2004. In addition to speaking, she also leads the puppets, in addition to Mánička and Bábinka, she also leads a number of others. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she does well, because from what I heard her, her portrayal of the main female characters was very close to Helenka Štáchová.
And now male interprets:
Josef Skupa – he is the first interpreter / father of Spejbl and Hurvínek. In 1919, he had the carver Karel Nose make a strange eared mannequin, which was to become a caricature of outsmarted townspeople – Spejbl developed from it. Hurvínek joined Spejbl in 1926, when Gustav Nosek produced him as a surprise for Skupa. He was supposed to be a kind of scaled-down and improved copy of Spejbl. However, Skupa became enthusiastic about the puppet and soon Hurvínek was born. Since 1930, Skupa has been involved in theater professionally. During the war, the fates of the theater and Skupa were variously tense – you can read more about it by clicking on the link hidden under the name of Josef Skupa above. In 1948, Josef Skup was awarded the title of National Artist. In 1967, he received Honorary Citizenship of the City of Pilsen (in memorian).
Miloš Kirschner – he was the successor of Josef Skupa, whom Skupa himself named him in 1956. He alternated with Skupa as Spejbl and Hurvínek since 1952, a year after he was admitted to the Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek. After Skupa, he was the director of the Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek. Under his leadership, the character of the main characters also developed, and he was not afraid of stage and thematic innovations. Unlike Skupa, the protagonists also spoke foreign languages through him – in 44 years they visited 30 countries with him. In 1987, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and National Artist (on the occasion of his life jubilee).
Martin Klásek – he is the third performer of Spejbl and Hurvínek and the head of the artistic ensemble of the Spejbla and Hurvínek Theater. He joined the theater at the age of sixteen as a technician. He made his debut in 1974 in the children’s game “Hurvínek mez broučky” (Hurvínek among bugs). Then he had a break for several years, and from 1982 he regularly alternated Kirschner in the role of the main characters. After Kirschner’s death, he became his successor in the interpretation of these puppets. He officially retired in February 2022, after 50 years he was speaking as and leading the main male heroes of the theater. He also wrote and directed several plays, certainly not the last, for example the current S+H – “It takes two to…”
Ondřej Lážňovský – as with Marie Šimsová, it is difficult to write anything about Ondřej, because he is still “new”. Many people (except himself :)) consider him the successor of Martin Klásek, whom he alternates since 2017. You can currently hear him in the plays Hurvínek’s little Heaven and Fairy Tales for Hurvínek – that was in 2020, nowadays he’s the main interpreter of Spejbl and Hurvínek, since Martin Klásek retirement in February 2022. He also plays Žeryk, guides Hurvínek and portrays many other characters. He also directs. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed for success, although I haven’t heard him many times in the roles of Spejbl and Hurvínek, but when I do, it’s like hearing Kirschner.
That was for a short introduction of the characters and their performers. Although, if we were to discuss it properly, than the above text would fit the term “short” 🙂 The above information comes from Wikipedia, the pages of Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek and from my own knowledge – so if I made any mistakes, please let me know. A few more words about the repaint itself…. And as an interesting fact – the above images are the same that were used for creation of the repaint of the aircraft.
As I already wrote in the introduction, I created this fictitious repaint for the Boeing 737-800 aircraft as a gift for Josef Spejbl’s 100th birthday. It’s supposed to be a tribute to these wooden heroes and all the people who stand behind them – ehm, or above them. To be a little bit more specific:
- On the left side of the plane, in the rear part, you will find a picture of Spejbl and Hurvínek. On the middle part of the fuselage, the are pictures and names of their four fathers – interpreters of Spejbl, Hurvínek and Žeryk – Josef Skupa, Miloš Kirschner, Martin Klásek and Onřej Lážňovský.
- On the right side of the plane, in the rear, you will find a picture of Mánička, Bábinka and Žeryk. On the middle part of the fuselage, in contrast with the left side, there are the names and pictures of their four mothers – interpreters of Mánička and later Bábinka – Anna Kreuzmannová, Božena Weleková, Helena Štáchová and Maria Šimsová.
- On both sides of the fuselage, the names of all other members of the Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek troupe (current as of 2020) are written above the windows.
- On the left wing there is an excerpt from the skit “Zapomenutá slova” (“Forgotten Words”)
- On the right wing there is an excerpt from the skit “Tajenka pro Spejbla i Hurvínka” (“The Secret for Spejbl and Hurvínek”)
So, with how painted aircraft will you soard the virtual skies for the enxt few months? I for sure with this one.

The repaint(s) included in this archive was made … just because as many other out there, because I love flight simulation. And the one contained in this archive – a repaint on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Josef Spejbl, specifically because I am a lifelong fan of Spejbl, Hurvínek, Žeryk, Mánička and Bábinka, Simply of the whole Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek.

Installation
The liveries distribution…, kind of returns to the past. It is again being distributed as zip archive. But please, read before you just try to unpack it into community folder. The archive you download, contains some readme files (czech and english) and folder named livery. In that folder is the actual livery zip file. For example: mouseviator-ok-mvc-2026-8k-ssw.zip. This is the file with the livery and you are supposed to use PMDG Operations Center 3.0 to install it. The fact is, it is little bit easier to install that way, rather than searching for community folder and extracting there. The another benefit is, that this file also contains the aircraft specific settings, so unless you change it, you will have the same equipment on board as I have when soaring in the virtual skies. Here is how you install with PMDG Operations Center 3.0:
- Open PMDG Operations Center 3.0
- In the left menu, select MSFS 2024 and then click on that big icon with 737-800 for MSFS.
- Than click on the green Import button…
- Which will open standard Open file dialog. Navigate to the livery zip file, select it and click Open.
- Once you select the livery file, PMDG Operations Center will start importing it. You should see the progress:
and then the info about successfull import:
- Install other liveries using the same steps, if you want.
- Go flying
Note: If you want the aircraft to be loaded in the configuration I mentioned it to have with this repaint, you need to set the “Tail number” to the “OK-JSP” at the “Identification” tab when selecting the aircraft and livery. In Prepar3D, this was related to the livery itself, in MSFS this “specific” aircraft configuration is related to the aircraft registration (Tail number).

Bonus – Custom tablet background
I’ve also override the background of PMDG 737-800 tablet home screen. Should you want to use that one too, keep reading. It could very well serve as a template to push your own home screen on the in-flight tablet, I believe 🙂
It does not change any aircraft systems or performance – it only replaces the visual background shown on the tablet for more personalized look.
It is really simple and just overrides the background image in:
\html_ui\Pages\VCockpit\Instruments\PMDGTablet\pmdg-737-800\Assets\So feel free to use this as template for your won background (should be enough just to replace my image with your own).
Important note
⚠️ This package REPLACES the tablet background for ALL liveries.
The background is not livery-specific. Once installed, the same background will be used in every PMDG 737-800 variant. The original background image
from PMDG stays intact. You can revert back to it simply by removing this package from the community folder.
How to install?
The archive you download, contains some readme files (czech and english) and a folder named “to community folder“. In that folder is the actual folder, named jspejbl-100th-anniversary-pmdg-aircraft-738-tablet-mod. That is the actual package. That folder needs to be copied/moved to the MSFS 2024 community folder.
Where is the Community folder?
The Community folder is created automatically by Microsoft Flight Simulator.

If you are not sure where your Community folder is located:
- Start Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
- Click on the icon that looks like shopping bag with FS written in it, in top right corner of the screen – to access FS Market.
- Then select My Library and on the right side of the screen and then click on the small icon with the gear.
- A dialog will be opened where you an see where is your community folder located. You can even change it to somewhere else here.
